Andrew Gakiria kindly invited me to do a short presentation about my actives in the International Dark Sky Week Kenya 2025 Webinar, 04/04/2025, which I gladly did.
I was mostly talking about preserving the night sky from an amateur astronomer and photographer, but also from an astrotourism perspective. I had also talked about this in more detail at a Uni Nairobi AstroNight last year. I recycled some of those slides, which mostly show examples of my astrophotography:
Kenya still has some pretty good dark skies not too far out from the cities, such as in Kajiado. And some very good dark skies further out, such as in the national parks or conservancies like Amboseli, or towards the Northern parts like Laikipia or Turkana. But light pollution is increasing everywhere, and it requires action to preserve the darkness of our night skies as much as possible. This is the mission of https://darksky.org, which has a Kenyan chapter where I am a member.
