I’ll talk about current community activities in Kenya around astronomy and space, and then give an overview of Kenya’s general potential for various related things, especially given its location on the equator and Indian Ocean.

It will include:
- An overview of various astronomy- and space-related institutions and activities in Kenya, both professional and amateur.
- My own activities, both past and future plans such as outreach events at schools or astrophotography workshops.
- Some examples of astro pics I took and explanations of their shooting and processing.
- Potential for astrotourism and location for observatories for hire and (virtual) telescopes for astrophotography.
- The bigger outlook for Kenya being on the equator and on the Indian Ocean coast, such as being a good location for launch pads and a future space elevator.
For the skywatching session after the talk, I’ll also bring my telescope; at the moment, Saturn is up in the evening/early night, and it’s one of the last occasions to view it while its rings are still well-visible, before they disappear around March 2025 and the re-appear later in that year.
